Eight Minutes Idle Blog 5
This week we’ve been thinking about an eclectic range of things—cable-cams, Bristol music, scripts and voices for the virals, marketing, animation—as we move on from the treatment to thinking about the other elements of our film. Mark was briefly excited by the ‘Spydercam’, although less so when he discovered it had been developed for Spider-Man: there will be no web-slinging superheroes in our movie (besides Nicholas).
We now have a twitter account for the project—http://twitter.com/8minutesidle--and are tweeting a combination of updates on the film’s progress, other things the team members are up to, and thoughts from Dan, our protagonist. Some lines are from the book, but most are new, as we reveal what’s happening to him right now.
It’s weird letting the character be piloted by the rest of the team—I was out at dinner on Friday and a friend showed me on his iphone that Sarah had taken Dan off for an Indian takeaway when I thought he was still in the pub. The nicest thing about having an account so far is that a few people have started to get in touch with comments, including one person who told me she’d sent a copy of the book to her team leader after finishing working at a call-centre as it best summed up her experiences of that sort of employment. Hopefully the film will tap into that feeling even further.
